Biography I became interrested in amateur radio when I joined a friend (SM6VAO/Chris) participating in a VHF contest, I found it somehow fascinating. Several of my workmates were also licensed, so after a while I decided to get licensed too. Many thanks to SM6MGZ/Lasse for providing studying material and a test-time on short notice! I had in mind to only get a VHF radio and ragchew some with my friends, but after just a few months I were QRV in the VHF contests on SSB. I bought more equipment, mostly for portable contesting since I can't put up any antennas in my flat. Next I joined a club (SK6AW), helped out re-building the contest station at the club (still in progress!). I do work most contests from there. I Got out on the shortwave bands in April 2004, and started doing HF contesting also. During the summer of 2004 I started building a permanent station in SM4 (Big thanks to my parents for putting up with all the antennas!). Joined WWYC late 2004, wich I find being a great bunch of guys, there's always someone around to ask or discuss with, giving you new ideas for improvement of operating skills and station setup.

My vacation QTH is located about 500km northeast of my flat in Gothenburg, a small village in Dalarna (SM4), known as Garpenberg. There's a few pictures available on the site from that location. This is where I currently work on antennas and make all the stuff I can't use in my flat. I do have antennas for most bands there (160-2m). As of Christmas 2006, I have the ability to remote-control a ICOM IC-706mk2 and a homebrew antenna switching unit, wich makes me QRV a bit more often. Plans for the summer 2007 is to also be able to control the rotor of the 2m yagi, along with the polarization.

I am probably not a real "radio amateur" or "HAM", but as the say in sweden, a "radio communicator". I haven't been around hamradio for many years yet, and I'm still young. I do not build my own transmitters, amplifiers or receivers, nor do I have the knowledge to do so. I do not know CW, but I'm planning to learn it sooner or later. I mostly participate in micro-expeditions (contests, IOTA, etc), contest from various QTH's where I'm invited. I'm also interrested in making the antenna park at the club and SM4 better. Always when I have the possibility, something new is built, added, improved or tested.

As of 2006-02-12 I switched my primary callsign to SM6U (my old contest call), and when I'm in SM4 I will be using SM6U/4 or 8S4S (old SM4-contest call), so SM6YOU is history now, I hope.
